Esther Hildebrandt cannot draw. If you are wondering what that has to do with food photography – well everything!

Had she been able to draw, the food photographer from Cologne could have worked on a photography degree in Munster in the early 90s. Instead she did an apprenticeship in event management and has worked in the restaurant business for more than 20 years. It was a valuable time in which she developed an eye for exquisite food along with a passion for cooking.

But she never gave up the dream of becoming a photographer. Along with her work in gastronomy she took photography courses and taught herself to become one of the most sought-after photographers today. She has the advantage of being able to tap on an almost inexhaustible knowledge of food.

The combination of gastronomy with photography is her passion, without which her food photos would never be what they are – natural, authentic and seductive.
